2001 Fratelli Grasso Barbaresco

($35) Medium red with amber tones. Rather diffuse aromas of red berries, tobacco and brown spices. Round and sweet, with plum and spice flavors offering modest definition and grip despite the wine's sound, harmonious acidity. Finishes with sweet tannins and good length.

2001 Fratelli Grasso Barbaresco Bricco Spessa

($46) Moderately saturated medium red. Complex aromas of plum, smoke and spices, with a faint animal nuance. Smooth, lush and fine-grained, with subtle flavors of plum, smoke and minerals. More vinous and nuanced than the normale, with good acidity lifting the wine's flavors. Finishes with ripe tannins and sneaky complexity.

2001 Fratelli Grasso Barbaresco Sori Valgrande

($46) Palish red with some brick tones. Roasted plum, strawberry, spices, smoke and a meaty nuance on the nose. Supple and sweet but with modest complexity. Offers good flavor and cut but ultimately a wine of moderate flavor intensity and flesh. Will give early pleasure. (Vin Divino, Chicago, IL)
