2001 Poderi Colla Barbaresco Tenuta Roncaglia

($56; the Colla estate owns about 80% of this cru) Good full red. Musky, high-toned, slightly funky aromas of raspberry, flowers and peppermint. Sweet and supple, with moderately complex, somewhat medicinal red cherry flavor. Finishes with toothcoating tannins that turned increasingly dry as the wine opened in the glass.

2000 Poderi Colla Barolo Dardi Le Rose Bussia

($62) Medium red. Red cherry, raspberry, menthol and red licorice on the nose. Fuller and sweeter than the 2001 Barbaresco, with flavors of red cherry and licorice. Has more mid-palate stuffing to support its building but broad tannins, which arrive later and come across as riper. This and the 2001 Barbaresco were aged in large casks and were bottled at the same time, in July of 2003. (Empson U.S.A. Alexandria VA
