($55) Deep ruby. Sexy, pure, expansive aromas of raspberry pastry, cinnamon and minerals. Lush, velvety and sweet, with intense raspberry and strawberry liqueur flavors complemented by gentle oak spice (this saw 20% new French oak). Sweet red fruits dominate the impressively long, silky finish. I find this irresistible.
($75) Deep violet. Explosively perfumed scents of ripe blueberry, cassis, kirsch, cured tobacco and dried flowers. At once very ripe and lively, with potent red and dark berry flavors; verges on jammy but maintains energy and focus. Soft tannins add support to this massive shiraz, whose level of extract suggests that it will repay at least a decade of cellaring.
($125) Ruby-red. Very ripe aromas of blueberry, plum and cherry compote complicated by tobacco, cedar and molasses. Oily in texture but the dark berry flavors are enlivened by zesty acidity, which adds a bracing quality. Mineral notes emerge on the long, spicy finish. This has outstanding hang time, leaving traces of graphite and bitter cherry on the aftertaste. (Old Bridge Cellars, Napa, CA)
