Also recommended: 2006 Shiraz Limestone Coast (86). (Kysela Pere et Fils, Winchester, VA)
($15) Light yellow. Leesy apple, pear and peach on the nose, with a tangy hint of lemon zest. A medium-bodied chardonnay with lively citrus flavors and a tangy, pleasingly bitter lemon pith note on the back. More vibrant and precise than one might expect from Australian chardonnay at this price.
($15; a 55/45 blend) Bright purple. Energetic cherry and blueberry aromas display an exotic hint of licorice. Taut, youthfully bright red and dark berries on the palate, with a nervy mineral lift to the finish. I preferred this to the creamy but jammier '06 shiraz. Finishes with lipsmacking berry skin flavors and very good length.
