($24) Ruby-red. Slightly reduced aromas of str awberry and pepper. Uncomplicated but attractive flavors of bright strawberry and red cherry. This is light and soft in the mouth, with plenty of bright sangiovese character and fine tannins on the moderately persistent finish.
($45) Medium-dark ruby. Reticent aromas of cassis, black plum and earth show greater depth than those of the base Chianti. Minerally on entry, then brisk and firm in the middle, with a penetrating but supple quality to its flavors of red and black cherry, meat and spices, particularly in view of the vintage. Finishes with tight-grained tannins that leave the taster with an impression of austerity. (SMD Selections, Albany, NY)
