($24; 85% garnacha and 15% syrah) Bright ruby. Ripe cherry and dark berry aromas are given depth and a brooding character by tobacco and espresso. Shows fresher red fruits on the palate but this is essentially a square-shouldered, youthfully stern wine. Loosens up with air, offering good finishing energy and fresh cherry/berry flavors. Definitely give this some air.
($24; 100% syrah) Bright ruby. Candied plum and cherry on the nose, with licorice and baking spices adding complexity. Deeper, sweeter blackberry and blueberry flavors display excellent clarity and are nicely firmed by juicy acidity. Gains a smoky note on the long, spicy finish. I like the vivacity here.
