2006 Canto Petirrojo De Lozar Ribera del Duero

($13) Bright violet. Zesty wild strawberry and redcurrant aromas are sharpened by minerals and fresh rose. Energetic red berry flavors display impressive clarity and develop a deeper cherry quality with air. Bright and focused on the long, spicy finish. I'd bet on this rewarding aging but it's delicious now. This is 100% tempranillo, from vines reportedly over 70 years old. And a superb value.

2006 Canto Petirrojo El Curato Old Vines Toro

($13) Inky violet. Expansive, jammy blackberry and blueberry on the nose, with no signs of earth or game. A pliant, juicy midweight, showing impressively sweet, deep dark fruit flavors, with light tannins adding support to the long, supple finish. Impressively suave and flavorful for the price.
