($40) Inky ruby. Bright redcurrant and cherry on the nose, with smoky oak spice adding complexity without coming off as intrusive. A youthfully firm midweight with vivid cherry and red berry flavors. Closes with sweet kirsch and candied plum flavors and very good length. Give this some air or cellar time.
($60) Saturated ruby. The nose shows a gaudy array of oak-spiced red and dark berry liqueur scents, with exotic Indian spice and cola accents. Lush, supple and sweet, displaying creamy raspberry and cherry flavors and an undercurrent of licorice, cured tobacco and roasted coffee. Lots of oak here but plenty of fruit, too. Finishes with clinging dark berry and cherry-cola impressions and noteworthy persistence.
($40) Ruby-red. Ripe cherry and plum aromas are complicated by tobacco and musky underbrush. Peppery dark fruit flavors show a lightly roasted tone and solid but not obtrusive tannins. Finishes on a warm note, with good persistence. This needs hearty food. (Vinamericas Selections, Miami Beach, FL)
