2004 Bodegas Comenge Ribera del Duero
($30) Dark purple. Rich cherry and plum on the nose, along with dark chocolate and espresso qualities. Quite ripe, with a vaguely roasted cast to the weighty dark fruit flavors. Finishes warm and deep, but just misses the energy needed to power the compote-like cherry and plum flavors. This needs rich food. (Folio Fine Wine Partners, Napa, CA)
