Crisp, focused red berry flavors are complicated by a peppery quality and carry through a long, tangy finish. Archetypical, refreshing rose and almost painfully easy to drink.
2005 Bodegas Martinez Laorden El Talud Rioja
($13; 100% tempranillo) Deep ruby. Highly perfumed nose displays vivid strawberry and raspberry scents unsullied (or uncomplicated) by earth, herb or animal qualities. Sweet red berry flavors are sweet and pliant, carrying nicely into a persistent, vibrant finish. Simple but undeniably delicious.
2005 Bodegas Martinez Laorden Por Ti Graciano Rioja
($25) Dark purple. Powerfully scented nose features deep raspberry and blackberry aromas accompanied by zesty mineral and floral accents. Suave and silky red and dark fruit flavors possess tangy minerality and enticing sweetness. Finishes bright, nervy and long. This has excellent focus and life, with no excess weight.
