2005 Bodega Santa Eulalia Dominio de Emaldibarra Ribera del Duero

($26) Ruby-red. Dark berries, cherry, underbrush and mocha on the nose, with a mounting vanilla quality. Deep dark fruit flavors are complicated by succulent herbs and chocolate, with gentle tannins adding structure. Creamy blackberry and plum flavors cling on the finish, which displays good intensity and length.

2004 Bodega Santa Eulalia Picres Ribera del Duero

($44) Deep ruby. Smoky, vanilla-accented raspberry and cassis aromas, with deeper licorice and espresso elements. Powerful and sweet, showing liqueur-like cherry/berry flavors, with cola and candied licorice notes adding complexity. The sweet finish features slow-building tannins and excellent persistence. Pretty sexy stuff. (Quality Wines of Spain, New York, NY)
