2004 Vinyes Domenech Furvus Montsant

($40; 60% garnacha and 40% merlot) Bright ruby. Red berry and cherry aromas display excellent depth and are complicated by baking spices and fresh flowers. Sweet and round, the red fruit quality repeating on the palate along with toasty oak. Mocha and candied licorice appear on the long, supple finish. A suave, luscious midweight, with obvious New World character and undeniable sex appeal.

2004 Vinyes Domenech Teixar Garnaxta Vella Montsant

($80; 100% garnacha) Bright ruby. Raspberry and cherry liqueur aromas are head-spinningly potent, with notes of oak spice, incense, smoky licorice and sweet mocha giving the nose an even more flamboyant personality. Plush, sweet and packed with flavors of red berry preserves, exotic Asian spices and vanilla. This velvety, mouthfilling wine is sure to please the most demanding wine sybarite, but likely to freak out traditionalists. (Quality Wines of Spain, New York, NY)
