2004 Bodegas Viyuela Tinto Roble Ribera del Duero

($20) Ruby-red. Primary red and dark berry aromas display a youthful peppery personality. Sweeter on the palate, showing a jammy dark berry quality and zesty cracked pepper accents on the back end. The finish is bright, focused, refreshing and persistent, leaving an energetic redcurrant impression.

2003 Bodegas Viyuela Crianza Ribera del Duero

($25) Deep red. Smoky, ripe aromas of red and dark berries complicated by flowers and minerals. Juicy red berry flavors are tightly wound and energetic, with brisk acidity adding lift. Finishes with racy redcurrant and bitter cherry flavors and excellent persistence. I really like the elegance here. (Beacon Wine Company, San Francisco, CA)
