1998 and 1997 Red Burgundies: 1998 is a serious, ageworthy vintage well
worth buying and cellaring, assuming you begin with the right wines. But
don't miss the lush '97s, a superripe but variable year that produced some
immensely rich and seductive wines.
Oregon Pinot Noir Update: My annual coverage of Oregon pinot noir includes
early releases from the outstanding 1998 vintage, a year that may ultimately
prove to be Oregon's finest to date.
Current Releases from Chile and Argentina: I had to sift through a host of
miserable wines from the El Niño harvest of '98, but the top wines I found
from Chile and Argentina include some of the world's greatest wine values.
