Two thousand eight was yet another Burgundy vintage saved by the north wind of September. The most successful 2008s are sharply delineated, classic wines with the complex fruit, mineral, floral and soil perfume that other pinot-producing regions can only dream about, but many wines from this tricky year are undernourished, tart or dry. The IWCs Annual Swimsuit Issue also features in-the-bottle notes on the fleshy, succulent 2007s, the best of which offer captivating purity of fruit.
