Why We Chose It
When top wineries like Beaux Freres and Cristom are vying for your Pinot Noir grapes, you know you're doing something right. So why not hold back some for yourself? Amalie Robert is best known for its fruit, but what really catches our attention is their tiny production of deeply colored, wildly aromatic Pinot Noir crafted from their estate vineyard that's farmed to less than 2 tons of fruit per acre!
In 1997, Ernie Pink and Dena Drews attended the Salud Pinot Noir Auction, Oregon's premier wine auction and tasting. They caught the bug. Almost immediately, they began looking for vineyard land in the Willamette Valley. When they came upon an unusual parcel, perfectly situated in the "center cut" of a south-facing hillside, they asked Dick Erath (one of Oregon's winemaking pioneers) for his opinion on the land's potential. Erath was impressed, planting soon began in earnest, and Amalie Robert was born. In 2006, things came full circle when Amalie Robert became a Salud winery.
The planting of Amalie Robert is a story unto itself. We visited Pink's 30-acre vineyard last week and spent several hours walking the vineyards and tasting the wines. Amalie Robert is divided into 34 distinct parcels, and Pink vinifies each separately. Clonal experimentation led to the planting of the Pommard, Wadenswil and Dijon clones. While the estate sells off some of the first two, the Dijon clones (5 different clones from 7 separate blocks!) are just too precious, all being reserved for this delicious estate Pinot.
This small offer of just 50 cases of 2005 Dijon Clones Pinot Noir is being made available first to our best customers. Rich, ripe, with wonderful red fruit and violet aromas and flavors, this is one of those Oregon Pinots where there is just too little to go around. Free shipping on 6 bottles. Limit of 6 bottles per customer.

Tasting Notes from the WineAccess Travel Log
2005 Amalie Robert Pinot Noir "Dijon Clones"
"This cuvee, made from a mix of 5 Dijon clones, is a true testament to the virtues of blending. Rich, plump and lush with a beautiful deep red color (characteristic of clones 113, 114 and 115), with wonderful complexity and finesse, and great backbone (clone 777) that speaks to the aging potential of this terrific 2005 Pinot. Drink now-2013."
