Lisini winery, Montalcino 94pt One of a Kind in Montalcino

The 2007 harvest was an anomaly in Tuscany. The summer was hot -- almost as warm as the torrid summer of 2003. While the vintage was widely lauded by the pundits, we seemed to have set our bar much higher. A number of Brunellos were unusually deep and voluminous, but many of those seemed to lack the high-toned elegance that makes Brunello di Montalcino the most sought after appellation in Italy.

We were presented with dozens of 2007s. Few made the grade. In the end, we aimed for the sky, reeling in small offers from the likes of Emilio Costanti, Fuligni, Poggio Antico and Argiano. But of all the standouts in this one-of-a-kind harvest, few would reach the heights attained at Lisini -- a magical cantina that's long been lauded for its warm vintage grandeur.

Lisini stunned collectors in the hot summer of 2003, earning a top spot on Wine Spectator's list of Top 100 Wines of the Year. The estate's deep-rooted vines shrugged off that summer inferno, quenching their thirst in the substrata, turning out marvelously ripe Sangiovese clusters showing no signs of shrivel or desiccation.

Not surprisingly then, in 2007, Lisini upped the ante. This time, it was Robert Parker's Wine Advocate that led the critical charge. Parker's publication called the 2007 Lisini Brunello di Montalcino "especially voluminous … endowed with tons of richness and nuance." For collectors, perhaps more important than the 94 point rave review was the age-worthy addendum. The Wine Advocate suggested that his lavishly endowed Brunello would be really hitting full stride sometime in 2027!

This is Redux. Given the small size of the offer, we've segmented the send to first include only our most loyal blue chippers, and 1847 Brunello collectors. Count yourself among the lucky few.

Tasting Notes

2007 Lisini Brunello di Montalcino
"The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is very beautiful in this vintage. Sweet dark cherries, flowers, mint and licorice take shape as the wine opens up in the glass. This is an especially voluminous wine endowed with tons of richness and nuance. A finessed, seamless finish laced with sweet hints of tobacco and wild flowers rounds things out in style. This is a terrific showing. Lisini gave the Brunello three years in cask. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2027."
94 points -- Antonio Galloni, Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate
