2007 Domaine du Chateau Larroque Cotes de Gascogne

Merchant Reviews The Bozzi family assumed control of this 16th century estate outside of Madiran in the early 1960s. With the guidance of Stéphane Beuret, a bordeaux-trained enologist, the estate's 5 hectares of prime, southerly facing vineyards (rich in clay and limestone) were moved to lutte raisonnée (no chemicals--the main fertilizer comes from the Charolais cattle also raised on the estate). The original 1748 cellar was renovated in 2000, and with it Beuret has created an elegant blend of Merlot, Cabernet and Tannat. Dried leaves, tobacco and ripe cassis dominate the nose. Firm, resolved tannins and dark, meaty fruit dominate the palate. Superb with roasted beef. -- Greg Moore, Moore Brothers Wine Company, May 14, 2009
