First, be sure to use a good large glass. The wine has a limpid, strawberry almandine color, which warms to bright mahogany at the edge. The nose is classic; with ripe red currants, strawberry preserves, crushed sweet herbs, and freshly cut hay moving in and out of the foreground as the wine evolves in the glass.
On the palate, the flavors echo the evolving nose: sweet and pure on entry, with a warm, concentrated core of red fruit that grows more and more voluminous with time, yet remains wonderfully firm, fresh and vibrant. And the long, fine-grained finish leaves you wishing it would never end. This is not like drinking a young wine. Drink now 2020. But no need to wait any longer; this one is perfectly mature.
As always at Moore Brothers, this lovely Volnay-Santenots was SHIPPED AT 56º, which, it goes without saying, is absolutely critical to the preservation of these incredible, dancing, mature Pinot Noir aromatics.
