2007 Proprieta Sperino Lessona
|
Merchant Reviews The De Marchi family inherited Villa Sperino in Lessona in the middle of the 19th century and produced wine there until 1952. In 1999 Paolo De Marchi, along with his son, Luca, began reclaiming the 25 acres of hillside vineyards by replanting Nebbiolo, and the indigenous varieties Vespolina and Croatina.
Virtually all Nebbiolo, the Lessona is hand-harvested from two plots, Ormeggio and Castagnola, in the commune of Lessona proper and a third, Cova, in Castello.
It is aged for 30 months in barrel and 6 months after bottling. Tar, violet and mushroom aromas highlight intense, pungent black fruit flavors. Silky and lengthy on the palate, it is superb with cinghiale (wild boar) and cervo (venison). -- Brian Healy, Moore Brothers Wine Company, July 12, 2011
