Maurice Robert (see photo) developed his love for winegrowing when he was 25. At the time he was selling tractors for the large agricultural machinery firm McCormick, when he came across a wealthy landowner who was charmed by young Maurice's energy, and gave him the opportunity to develop 150 acres of vines, apples, and grain. At 31, Maurice was given another opportunity to manage a winegrowing estate, this time in the Bordeaux commune of Cadillac. His success in the venture brought the attention of the large négociant, Lurton who offered him the chance to manage all the vineyards in the firm's holdings. While working for Lurton, Maurice came across an old, rundown estate called Château Turcaud with 40 acres of vineyards, and purchased the property in 1973. For years, while working for Lurton, he replanted the vineyards, rebuilt the winery, and restored the old home. Maurice is now considered one of top the winemakers in the large Entre-Deaux-Mers appellation. His wines are represented on the wine lists of some of France's most fabled restaurants, including Taillvent. |
