Hélène Thibon is the current winegrower/winemaker for her family's estate which has been in contiuous production since 1670. The winery itself was built by her father, Jean-Pierre, and his friend, Jean-Pierre Monmollin. The "legal" name for the winery is Caves des Deux-Pierres, a funny name that Mssr. Thibon assumed would be inherited by a son named Jean-Pierre.
He had daughters.
There are 42 acres of vineyards, some of which are on steep terraces overlooking the Rhône - all of which are on rocky, limestone-rich soil. Production is very small, and the land is farmed organically, with a horse-drawn plow. Hélène is a lot stronger than she appears, and her wines reflect her sunny, outgoing personality. |
