Domaine Daniel Rion et Fils
 In 1955, Daniel Rion inherited 5 acres of vines in Vosne-Romanée and farmed the vineyards with a view to selling the wines to local négociants in Beaune and Dijon. He was joined in the venture by his sons, Patrice and Olivier, in the late seventies who brought with them small parcels they had purchased or inherited over the years. Together the family rebuilt the old winery and home in Prémeaux, and expanded their holdings in Nuits Saint Georges, Vosne Romanée, Chambolle Musigny, Clos de Vougeot and Marey-les-Fussey. Today the property cover 45 acres of fabled vineyards. The vines range in age of 25-65 years. The vineyards are farmed and harvested manually, usually in whole bunches. The grapes are de-stemmed with most winemaking taking place in open, temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Currently Olivier Rion (shown at right with his wife, Anne) is the winemaker for this domaine, while Christophe and Pascal Rion handle the vineyards and business ends of running the domaine. Despite its international reputation, Domaine Daniel Rion produces fewer than 9,000 cases in a normal vintage. |
