Domaine des Valanges
Michel Pacquet is the first to admit he came to winegrowing accidentally. In 1979, having just returned from military service, with a pregnant wife and no quick prospects for employment, Michel was renting a small apartment in the medieval village of Davayé, in the heart of the Saint-Véran appellation. Two tragic deaths in the family of a local winegrower created an opportunity to farm the vineyards on behalf of the family, and before long, Michel was making a reputation as a hard-working vigneron-a life he'd never imagined till then. As a parvenue, without a long history of winemaking in the region, Michel had to learn quickly how to avoid bankruptcy while still recognizing the opportunities presented by taking risks to increase quality. His hard work is now recognized even by the toughest critics. |
