2003 Wein & Sektgut Thielen Merlen Fettgarten Riesling Spatlese
|
Merchant Reviews The wider district surrounding Merl-Zell is best known for the industrial production of Zeller Schwarze-Katz, usually made from Müller-Thurgau grown at very high yields in the flat, shaded vineyards along the Mosel's banks. But towering above the hamlet of Merl, a limited extension of the Mittel-Mosel's steep slopes of rocky black slate provides refined, aromatic Rieslings as fine as any in the region. The Fettgarten is the most important vineyard, and Thielen's wine is among the finest Rieslings made there in 2003. -- Greg Moore, Moore Brothers Wine Company, April 1, 2006
