2007 Corzano e Paterno Il Corzano Rosso Toscano

Merchant Reviews
Fattoria Corzano e Paterno is a unique, family-run farm that was established in 1973 by Wendle Gelpke and his extended family. Farming includes vines, olives, and sheep. All three produce some of Europe's finest examples of wine, olive oil, and cheeses. Aljosha Goldschmidt, Wendle's nephew, directs the winegrowing and production, on this estate that lies within the old Chianti di San Pancrazio, just outside of San Casciano. The Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon are hand harvested and vinified separately in a mix of large barrels and stainless steel tanks. Longer maceration and then aging for 14 months in barrique produces concentrated aromas of bramble, red plum and dried cherries followed by fresh hay, balsamic and fennel. On the palate, the wine is full bodied, with a sweet core of ripe red and black fruit framed by smooth round tannins and fine minerality that cleanses the palate. The flavors persist through the long clean finish.
