2009 Corzano e Paterno Chianti Terre di Corzano
|
Merchant Reviews Fattoria Corzano e Paterno is a unique, family-run farm that was established in 1973 by Wendle Gelpke and his extended family. Farming includes vines, olives, and sheep. All three produce some of Europe's finest examples of wine, olive oil, and cheeses.
Aljosha Goldschmidt, Wendle's nephew, directs the winegrowing and production, on this estate that lies within the old Chianti di San Pancrazio, just outside of San Casciano.
The Sangiovese and Canaiolo are hand harvested and vinified separately in a mix of large barrels and stainless steel tanks. In the glass, the wine is the color of dark red cherries, with more ripe cherries, crushed violets, fresh hay, and brambly balsamic undertones in the nose. On the palate, the wine is medium bodied, with a sweet core of ripe red and black fruit framed by smooth round tannins and fine minerality that cleanses the palate. The flavors persist through the long clean finish.
