2011 Emrich Schonleber Monzinger Halenberg Riesling Trocken Grosses Gewachs

Merchant Reviews
Goethe once noted: "This time people were boasting of one of their local wines, called 'Monzinger.' They say it runs down the throat with such ease and pleasure, that you only realise its bewildering effect too late. The temptation to taste it and to measure ourselves with it was too great to resist." Since the 1960s, Werner (now joined by his son, Frank) Schönleber, has been reclaiming the tradition of fine wine in Monzingen, with his ambitious reclamation of the Frühlingsplätzchen and Halenberg vineyards, both of which are considered among the Grand Cru of Germany. This Großes Gewächs perfectly reflects the slate and clay soils of the Halenberg. Intense focus and concentration and an extremely complex array of aromas -- hinting at an intricacy to come -- are hallmarks of Werner Schönleber, one of Germany's best winemakers.
