2010 Ettore Germano Barbera d'Alba Vigna della Madre

Merchant Reviews
In 1990, Sergio Germano returned from oenology school to his family's six hectares in Serralunga d'Alba. As a fourth-generation wine grower - in a part of Barolo where most farmers sold their grapes to Fontanafredda, the largest n├ęgociant in the region - Sergio moved their entire production to estate vinification and bottling within two years. The tiny cru known as Vigna della Madre holds all of Sergio's oldest Barbera vines. The natural concentration and complexity of this fruit warrants the treatment it receives: hand harvesting and elevation in barrique. Warm spice and licorice flavors are the result, well integrated with rich fruit and supple tannins. Its firmly structured palate will only get better with time.
