2007 Isole e Olena Cabernet Sauvignon Collezione De Marchi
In the 1970s, the Classico zone of Chianti was in a state of flux. A total reorganization of plantings and expectations for the region led many producers, most notably Paolo De Marchi, to experiment with grape varieties from outside the region in an effort to better understand the relationship between clonal selections and quality.
Planting "international" varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, and Chardonnay helped Paolo discover the nobility of the region's native Sangiovese. Along the way, Paolo also proved that his small part of Tuscany could produce world-class wines from more familiar grapes that showcased the unique character of Tuscany.
His Cabernet Sauvignon has consistently been recognized as among this most expressive examples grown anywhere. Lengthy, well-resolved tannins complement and balance a soft impression of red currents, toasted anise and sweet earth on the palate.
Excellent alongside roasted Chianina beef or wood-grilled lamb loin.
