2012 Ettore Germano Barbera d'Alba

Merchant Reviews
In 1990, Sergio Germano returned from oenology school to his family's six hectares in Serralunga d'Alba. As a fourth-generation wine grower -- in a part of Barolo where most farmers sold their grapes to Fontanafredda, the largest n├ęgociant in the region -- Sergio moved their entire production to estate vinification and bottling within two years. Sergio's graceful Barbera is from younger-vine fruit in the Vigna della Madre, the Balau, east of Cerretta, and the Lorenzino sites. Stainless-steel vinification preserves the excellent acid found here and accentuates the natural raspberry and spice flavors. An earthy, mushroom pungency, typical of Serralunga, underscores the brightness, balancing the wine beautifully. Excellent wine for braised veal or chicken, angolotti and risotti.
