| The three finest villages for Sancerre are Chavignol, Bue, and Verdigny. The first two produce powerfully structured Sauvignon Blanc, while Verdigny generally yields more mineral, extremely refined wine. The ""Clos de Chaudenay"" from Etienne Daulney combines the minerality of Verdigny with the richness provided by the 45-year old Sauvignon vines in the vineyard. Etienne works the vineyards arduously, while his brother Bertrand, the senior oenologist of Sancerre, helps out in the cellar. While production is small, the Clos de Chaudenay is a magnificent example of elegant, concentrated Sancerre. |
