Domaine Andre Bonhomme
André Bonhomme's in a remarkable story of a young man determined to make his mark in a region that discouraged personal initiative. In 1957 he set off a revolution in the sleepy Mâconnais town of Viré by declaring himself independent of the négociants in Beaune and the local cooperative, and began estate-bottling his own wine. His belief that his vineyards had the potential to produce great wine, was borne out by the mid-sixties, through strict viticultural practices and scrupulous winemaking. For nearly fifty years, André Bonhomme and his 25 acres of Chardonnay have been a benchmark, and it was his work and standards that were adopted when the appellation Viré-Clessé was awarded to the region in 1998. |
