The Domaine Jaume was established in 1905 with the help of Henri Chauvet - famous for his "croquettes" recipes, but more interested in vines than cooking. Henri's son-in-law, Pierre Jaume continued the work on the vines in the sixties, and his sons, Pascal and Richard took over in the late eighties after enology school in Beaune.
Currently there are 192 total acres under vine, which makes this a fairly large estate for the area. The vineyards are planted in two soil types depending on their location: rocky limestone hills for the Grenache and Mourvedre, and limestone/clay soils for the Syrah and Viognier. Small plots are planted to Marsanne, Roussanne, and Clairette, for the rare white wines of the estate.
The AOC Vinsobres was established in 2006, elevating the area from "Côtes-du-Rhône Villages." |
