This week we are going to California to visit an old friend, Bouchaine Winery. this is a winery that specializes in Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and they do a beautiful job. We will be tasting them all weekend and on Friday, Bob Fallon, winery representative will be here to talk about these fabulous wines. We love them all, read on to find out about them.

Bouchaine Estate Chardonnay, Napa Valley~Carneros

For anyone searching beyond overly-oaked Chardonnays, this one will surely delight and satisfy! This wine comes from vines dating to Bouchaine's original plantings in 1981, growing on the beautiful windswept Napa Valley Carneros hillsides. It's a true expression of Chardonnay-bright, citrusy flavors graced with only the merest hint of oak. Its fruit flavors, bright acidity, notable texture (a hallmark characteristic of Carneros Chardonnay), and relentless finish harmonize in an elegant, stylish wine. Straw gold in color, it dances in the glass like sunlight. The wine is a blend of three Chardonnay clones:each providing a different component such as structure, acidity, and citrus flavors; essential oils and flavor complexity; and a heritage muscat clone to introduce floral and perfumed aromatics. Bouchaine Carneros Pinot Noir

Bouchaine's Carneros Pinot Noir is a blend of Dijon, Pommard, and Swan clones from their vineyards and very select lots from neighboring Carneros vineyards. These highly regarded neighbors include the Gee Vinyard (dry-farmed), Las Brisas Vineyards, and Casa Carneros. Bouchaine's corner of Carneros is best suited to growing Pinot Noir, and this vintage was blessed with classic Carneros: cool, fog-covered evenings and comfortably warm days that allowed Pinot grapes to develop fully, while maintaining bright acidity. The resulting wine is redolent of cherries and berries with a touch of earthiness and orange peel. More and more people have discovered what longtime Pinot Noir lovers have always agreed: Pinot is the most versatile red wine and pairs best with so many foods. Bouchaine Bouche d'Or Dessert Wine
Napa Valley / Carneros, California
Bouche d'Or translates into "Taste of Gold" and refers to the amber color and luscious, sweet essence of this wine. You may know that the characteristic honey-apricot fragrance, found in many late harvest wines, comes from what's known as the "noble rot," or botrytis cinerea, which occurs naturally on grape clusters. Bouchaine delayed harvesting one acre of our estate vineyard Chardonnay grapes until December of 2007, anticipating that the botrytis would further concentrate the grape sugars. The resulting wine, seasoned with a touch of aromatic Riesling, recalls to mind honeyed apricots and ripe figs, yet is delicate in weight and smooth in texture. Says Winemaker Michael Richmond, "I love this wine with fresh fruit, or even as an aperitif to be enjoyed with liver pate or smoked hors d'oeuvres." A delicious food pairing is Bouchaine Bouche d'Or with a goat cheese-pear-honey tart that creates one of those times when you don't know where the food ends and the wine begins.
