It comes with the same big-ticket price, the same impressions of density and the same riper bias as its cellarmates, but this big and somewhat sinewy wine is never so plush and plump, and its rush to ripeness results in a bit more heat than its basic fruit can hide. Its tannins are packed in heavily, and its finishing mix of coarseness, astringency and last-minute acid makes it the least tempting of its clan at this point. Hide it away for another six to eight years.

Saturated medium ruby. Aromas of blackberry, cassis, espresso, bitter chocolate and spicy, smoky oak. Fat and sweet, with currant and fresh herbal flavors. Finishes with good length and fairly substantial tannins, but the tannins are slightly finer than those of the Monitor Ledge release.
