(100% chardonnay, from Cramant and Oger, half from 2008 and half from 2007; disgorged in May, 2013 after four years on its lees): Bright straw. Intensely perfumed scents of chalky minerals, pear skin, lemongrass and white flowers, with a smoky quality building with air. Dry, racy and precise, offering vibrant melon and citrus fruit flavors and a deeper note of poached pear. Finishes with excellent clarity and striking length, leaving mineral and floral notes behind.
Bright yellow-gold. Mineral-driven aromas of pear, tangerine and floral honey. Dense, gently sweet pit fruit flavors pick up notes of anise and lemon thyme with air, along with a hint of blond tobacco. The mineral element adds clarity and lift to the very long, spicy, smoky finish. For a rich Champagne this is surprisingly graceful.
