this the best 10.00 bottle of wine we have had in a long time.
warm, smooth, enjoyable
By Meaders13687201, November 21, 2009
Mike even liked this wine. It has a warm smooth taste. I don't know how to review wines yet but this is really good.
Enjoyable

Uncomplicated, but enjoyable. Nice Pinot Rosé.
Good Value
By Brown13580322, July 10, 2009
Nicely balanced, a departure from the tart pinots at this price range.
A Very Good Buy for the Money
By Plavnik11408436, January 13, 2009
it is light and mediume bodied, with soft finish and nice complex aroma. Will buy it again
Will buy it again

took a chance because of the inexpensive price, but this is a good wine. Little light at first but got better over time.
Outstanding Bargain
By ARTSON, December 11, 2008
One of the best Pinot Noir I have ever tasted, regardless of the price. Served it with Thanksgiving dinner this year and it was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Great Dinner Wine (2007)
By Seiler13298509, November 29, 2008
This is a great wine at a great price. Although a 2007 (young) we paired this wine with our Thanksgiving dinner, which included Turkey, Ham and Salmon. This wine paired very well with all. Dry earthy beginning turning to a flavorful strong raspberry and blackberry. The tart ending is likely due to the youthful age of the bottle. I bought a case and am cellaring most of it to 2010.
French pinot. 2007

Light but not watery. Meant to be an inexpensive table wine. Great "drinkability".
Great with pork chop and risotto
Our New House Pinot
By Lynch12439588, November 05, 2008
This is a Pays D'oc wine, not a true Burgundy. As such it is a tremendous value with lots of Burgundy barnyard and fruit. The flavors are not powerful but I wouldn't expect that at this price. We've tried the 2006,2007 and reserve. Prefer the non reserve bottlings. Also, the wine holds up and even improves when vacu-van'd and left to sit on the counter for a few days. Recommend decanting or large glasses on the first night you drink this.
Pleasantly surprised!

An expensive and pleasant Pinot Noir. It was much better than I had expected. Great value.
Nice unassuming wine
By Siegel12811975, November 13, 2008
Just fine for dinner at home or sipping. Light flavors, not very complex, smooth tannin. Held up nicely with meatloaf, potatoes lyonnaise, did not overwhelm cauliflower. Quality matches price. Do not overchill!
Very Good Pinot Noir with Excellent Value
By LaVriha11895971, August 20, 2008
We have been very pleased with this Pinot over the past few months but it was an added pleasure when all of our dinner guests last week commented on how much they enjoyed this wine.
Good Pinot, great value
By Robert 22033, April 28, 2008
It's hard to find an inexpensive Pinot Noir that you want to drink, but this one worked for me. It seemed a bit weak the first night, but I finished the bottle the next evening and was very pleased. But it's a 2006 -- so I guess it really needed to be decanted. I'll definitely buy this again. Maybe the first night was a fluke --I'll update this review after I try another bottle.
I like it for the value
By buckel12369194, February 11, 2008
I think I paid about $10 for this and that is at least what I got. I love the funky/earthy Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis, and Vougeot wines of Burgundy and the black tea, spicy pinots from Carneros but had none of those expectations. I expected light with a balance of fruit and earth without much power on the nose or palate. While the nose was a little too soft in intensity, the palate was pleasant with raspberry, red cherry, and a pleasant finish of stone and earth. Nothing exciting, but also not $100 - $400.
Nice Simple Wine
By CJDjinn, November 23, 2007
A nice wine to enjoy with a spicy dishes. Mild and fruity in the front with a very subtle peppery feel in the end. A good wine for $10, though it is not what I expected from a French Pinot.
Great Value for Pinot
By CityRat, September 04, 2007
Unlike some other reviewers, I think this Pinot is a superior value. Is it a Willamette Pinot? No, it isn't. It's not as strong and doesn't cost as much either. It is a nice medium bodied Pinot. It makes a great every day table wine.
Great value for the money
By FilmPinotNoir, June 20, 2007
Amazingly fruity for a French wine. I was struck by the vibrant color after pouring my first glass. There are raspberry and blueberry flavors, lively enough to make you think this is a California Pinot. I'll certainly buy another bottle.
light and balanced
By Luckie13355496, December 18, 2008
Its not bad for the price, somewhat light, tanins do not overpower the fruit. improved after it was poured.
Light & Fruity Good QPR
By Houli, December 09, 2008
Fruity, light, with a slight tartness at the end. Fine for less than $10.
2006 D'Autrefois PN "Reserve" (Not Listed)
By Thumper 12141604, October 17, 2008
To paraphrase what frequent Wine Access review contributor "Big Daddy" once observed about another unexpectedly lighter wine, "This 2006 PN "Reserve" is like a Beaujolais on Steroids!" It exhibits signature Gamay characteristics: earthy, fruity, raspberries, cherries, devoid of meaningful tannins, a tad hot on the fleeting finish. Serve slightly chilled with lighter meats and softer cheeses. Affordable party sipper. Recommended.
Excellent value.
By Shellhouse12702554, October 16, 2008
I was pleasantly surprised by this wine. It was recommended by the staff, so I tried it. For $9.99 you can't go wrong. Tip: Decant first.
Value
By DC12662843, August 21, 2008
Personally I think it's the best $10 Pinot Noir I've ever tasted. It's fairly complex and maybe a little bit fruity, but still...$10. You can't beat it with a stick.
By C12507997, March 11, 2008
Good French wine for the money. Medium body and a nice finish.
Nice and good value
By kwtaper, January 20, 2008
Medium body with good berry and slightly tart finish. Not as light as some CA pinots a bit more complex. Drank watching 3:10 to Yuma. The pairing went well.
Solid little Pinot
By S12270476, February 17, 2007
Most Pinot Noirs under $40 are undrinkable--that's a fact. :) PN is a tough grape to vinify and most wineries aren't up to the task. Don't expect a lot of complexity here, but you do get a nice nose, some varietal flavors, and and a short clean finish. Romanee Conti it ain't, but $10 you gets you a brief peek at heaven even if it leaves you standing outside the gates.
By Rugh12191916, January 18, 2007
I actually thought this to be a little flat and not really what I expect out of a Pinot Noir. I am much more familiar with California Pinots, and if this is typical of French Pinot, I think I'll stick with the USA.
Good value, nice wine
By ToddRyan, February 08, 2006
Medium-bodied, medium finish, great with spicy foods which will bring out a pronounced "kick" in the finish. Typically French lack of fruit flavors, fairly mellow in taste. When held in the mouth it quickly flattens out but livens up upon ingesting. Would also go with any mildly flavored or light food as it wouldn't overpower.
This is my first taste of a Pinot Noir so I rated it an "average" as I have nothing to compare it to taste wise. This bottle was suggested by TW staff.
soft texture, pleasant Pinot Noir
By Niggli13531298, May 24, 2009
smooth and fruit forward, light in body, but not worth buying again. Like more complex style. Symple!
Not the cream of the (French) crop
By Spanish Bob, February 13, 2009
The title of this review says it all. Total Wine needs to practice truth in advertising. They're "Wine Buyer's" comments card on the shelf touts this as a bargain at the price, but it can't hold up to the 2007 Ropiteau at a better price. Perhaps they overbought the D'Autrefois. If you want an easy drinking, every day (dare I say it "French" Pinot) buy the Ropiteau and buy it by the case.
Lance & Susan
By Lance & Susan, September 26, 2008
We did not care for this wine at all. Maybe we got a bad bottle too. Ours had a mild vinegar taste & was a little to dry for us. We decanted it with no improvement.
Too earthy for me
By Green12895321, August 19, 2008
I really didn't like this wine. I'm experimenting with Pinot's in the $11 range, and my expectations are lower in this range than for the Bear Boat's and other $20+ wines. D'Autrefois is far too earthy, silty for me. Certainly a very big cherry flavor to it, but not quite pleasant to me. I am a big fan of Castle Rock in this price range, so if you dislike the smoothness and light berry flavor of Castle Rock you might like D'Autrefois. Woof!
Simple
By Thompson12409822, June 10, 2007
A modest wine, light to medium body, with simple berry flavors. It had a slightly tart finish.
Borderline value for $10. Tasted a little better after breathing for a few hours.

Bad Bottle?

My bottle had a strong vinegar taste.
