We thoroughly enjoyed the 2004. The best riesling I have ever experienced.
Excellent wine and a value (even at the price)

Joh. Jos. Prum Riesling Spatlese Graacher Himmelreich is an excellent example of Spatlese. Prum is renowned for producing Rieslings of great dept and structure and this one is no different. I assume that people will be fixated on the price as Riesling is known as a sweetish value wine. This is a big step up from the common QbA style that is racy and sweet at the $6 - $10 level.
The real big step is in complexity. In this wine you can find the familiar acid indicators from lesser Rieslings but you graduate to nuances of lemony and tropical fruity aromas. There is a noticeable taste of integrated slate from the terrior. Another noticeable difference is in the body which is medium- to full, with medium sweetness. The other noticeable quality of this wine is the long, spicy finish.
If you are ready to be overwhelmed by a more expensive Riesling and still feel like you got a great buy, look no further. This is a truly great wine.
