For several vintages now, we have found much to like in the ripe and fleshy wines of Chateau Couspaude. But, in a vintage that seems tailor made for this property, the wine comes up so earthy and leathery as to make moot its underlying ripeness and fruit. It may be praised as complex in some circles, but we cannot count ourselves as fans in this outing.
