A perrenial over-achiever and best buy, Cap de Faugere offers excellent Bordeaux value that won't break the bank and doesn’t need decades of bottle age. It is a blend of 85%, merlot 10%, cabernet franc and 5% cabernet sauvignon grown on limestone and clay soils. It is part of Chateau Fuageres, and the property sits astride the line between Saint Emillon and Cotes de Castillon, with the vines in the back are Cotes de Castillon and those in the front Grand Cru Saint Emillion. The Cap de Faugeres has much of the same characteristics as the Saint Emillion and with its high Merlot, is a ripe, supple, beautiful wine that can be enjoyed sooner than its pricier relatives on the Saint Emillion side. Region: Cotes de Castillon Soils: clay limestone Cepage: 85 % merlot 10 % cabernet franc 5 % cabernet sauvignon Viticulture:plowing of the soil and grass-cover, “guyot double” pruning, leaf stripping, green harvesting, manual picking, two successive sorting table to select grapes. Vinification: pre-fermentation maceration in cold conditions, temperature-controlled stainless steel conical vats, 12 months in used oak barrels" Drink: 2015-2020
