Our Shipping & Delivery Policy
*Please note that UPS will not honor any claim for heat or cold damage. We ship and package on behalf of our customer and upon their instruction and at their discretion. The Wine House is not the shipper but the shipping agent for our customer.
Insurance & Shipment Requisites
$100 of loss/damage insurance is included in UPS shipments. If you wish to add additional insurance, please call us or write the request in the comments section of the order. Although we will help advise you, any insurance claims are the customer's responsibility and is a dealing between the customer and UPS. Please note that UPS policy dictates which states they are allowed to deliver to. Any claims of damage or loss may be void if the customer resides in a state that cannot legally receive wine deliveries from retailers.
It is incumbent on the customer to choose the level of shipping desired. Please list any requests other than UPS Ground in the comments section of the order.
Packages to the general San Francisco area can be delivered via messenger upon request. Applicable rates apply.
We entertain any special requests regarding many shipping options such as gift deliveries or other possibilities.
Levels of Service and Approximate Rates
We offer UPS Ground; 3-Day Select (recommended); 2nd Day Air; and Next Day Air. delivery. Rates may change and occasionally vary from the generic rates indicated on the Website. Cases with a mix of bottle sizes are especially subject to a change in shipping cost - usually lower. We will indicate any small changes in the confirmation of your online order.
The Wine House will contact you with any questions, issues or larger price discrepancies (shipping and other) so it is important to include your daytime phone number.
All shipments are securely packaged in Styrofoam or recycled cardboard wine shipping materials inside cardboard.
Ground Domestic Shipping and Restrictions
Estimated delivery time is 2-10 business days dependent upon destination. UPS does not deliver on Saturday unless requested by the customer. For packages to the East Coast that will not arrive in four days, the majority of our shipping is on Friday unless 3-Day or faster service is requested. This ensures that the wine will not sit in a very hot, or very cold UPS hub over a weekend but in a very temperate Bay Area Hub.
Street addresses and phone numbers are required for all shipments. A breakdown of shipping & handling charge for Wine House orders is available by request. Overnight and 2-day shipping services are also available, excluding Hawaii and Alaska. Rush shipping charges apply.
International Shipping and Restrictions
The Wine House ships international packages via best available carrier. Shipping and duty charges apply. Street addresses and phone numbers are required for all shipments.
All sales including futures and pre-arrivals are final. Defective merchandise may be returned within 7 days. Defective does not mean the wine does not appeal to your personal tastes.
As is standard in the industry, for wines 10-years old or older, purchase is at the buyer's risk. We purchase our old and rare wines only from reputable sources and that have been properly stored.
In the rare instance we are able to accept a return after seven days it is our policy to apply a 10% restocking fee to all orders including futures and pre-arrival. As we are wine merchants and not wine stock traders, we are disinclined to accept return on futures orders because of the speculative nature of these markets. We entered this business because of a love of wine, not a love of market movement.

For negotiated returns on items shipped, all transportation expenses are the responsibility of the customer. We retain the right to refuse the returns of wines damaged in shipment or as a result of mishandling or improper storage.
As a small merchant that values our relationships with our customers, we feel it is unfortunate that the above terms are necessary, but the nature of internet commerce compels us to post them. In the end we want to maintain a good relationship with our customers and provide them with positive shopping experiences.
