Saint-Estephe wines are chunky, earthy, slow-aging and often characterized by solid tannins that tend to be less fine-grained than those of wines from Pauillac and Saint-Julien. Saint-Estephe wines show notes of black fruits, black olive, fresh herbs and pepper. While Saint-Estephe wines do not often achieve the complexity or delicacy of wines from Pauillac or Saint-Julien, they are full-flavored and often quite powerful.
