Domaine William Fevre
Fevre was once good. Now it's great. In fact, the improvement of this house is one of the most exciting developments in Chablis in the past 20 years. The ownership of the Henriot family of Champagne, which also owns Bouchard Père et Fils in Beaune, has resulted in a striking transformation.
Of course, a combined 23.2 hectares of Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards don't hurt either. Of all the acreage, the 4 hectare parcel from Les Clos is indisputably Fevre's greatest treasure. One of, if not the greatest, Chardonnay vineyard on the planet, Les Clos faces due south, its soil a deep, dense clay on a bed of limestone. This special terroir produces a spiciness and complex bouquet unique to the vineyard. Overall, the wines are rich, deep, and powerful, with outstanding purity of flavor and expressive vineyard character. Prices are very reasonable for the high quality of the wine.
