In the heart of Chianti Classico, Paolo di Marchi has dedicated himself to the vines at Isole e Olena, where he took over at the tender age of 20. Paolo eschews the Cabernet many of his neighbors have begun to incorporate into their Chiantis, believing it overshadows the Sangiovese
. His, are true Tuscan wines, which call on tradition for their greatness.
Leading the pack is Cepparello, a barrique-aged Sangiovese classified as an IGT - because at the time of its creation in the 1980s, a wine comprising 100% Sangiovese could not legally be labelled as Chianti. There is a Chianti Classico and a Vin Santo, as well as some excellent wines from the Collezione de Marchi label, including a Syrah called Eremo, a Cabernet Sauvignon
and a Chardonnay
