Nestled above the Spring Mountain fog, on the Napa – Sonoma county line, Pride Mountain Vineyard sits on a former 340-acre agricultural Summit Ranch. In 1989, when Jim and Carolyn Pride purchased the spread they planned on growing grapes to sell, but soon caught the bug and built a winery. These days the Pride's son Steve is running things at this 235-acre estate. His aim is to make wines in the riper 'California style' and has no shame in doing so this does not preclude structure and balance.

When Bob Foley was winemaker at Pride Mountain Vineyard, he was known for big reds that combined the powerful, brier-y flavors of mountain berries with creamy, round texture and supple tannins. Today Pride Mountain Vineyard produces thirteen different wines annually from eight varieties grown on its 83-acres: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Syrah, Chardonnay and Viognier. The mountain's diversity of soils results in a staggering number of variables to consider, thus 40 separate blocks are 'sustainably' cultivated by a full time year round vineyard crew and vinified separately. However, the wines do certainly possess a unified mountain character, dark, resinous and brawny.
