Chateau Calon Ségur
The northernmost classified growth in the Medoc, Chateau Calon-Segur was the treasure of renowned 18th century winemaker Alexandre de Segur. Although he owned wine powerhouses Lafite and Latour, he famously declared that "his heart was with Calon-Ségur." The heart shapes printed on each bottle are a reminder of his proclamation.

Harvested from 123 acres in the St. Estephe AVA, the wines of Chateau Calon-Segur have a great track record for aging. A high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon helps produce a rich, structured, concentrated wine, with plenty of sweet, dark berry fruit and an often wild, spicy-woodsy tone. Look to the 2009 vintage, a blend of 92% Cabernet and 8% Merlot, as an outstanding example of these characteristics. Chateau Calon-Segur makes about 20,000 cases per year of the eponymous Grand Vin as well as a second wine, Marquis de Calon.
