Bright dark ruby. Cassis, blueberry, dark chocolate, shoe polish and a floral note on the nose. Supple entry, then comes across as quite dry and less viscous than the last few zins, and distinctly fresher than the '97 bottling. Tannins are substantial but not hard—very much like the tannins of petite sirah.
