89 Points | Stephen Tanzer's IWC - March/April 1999

Saturated dark red. Superripe, highly nuanced nose combines spicy black raspberry, plum, tar, smoke and cinnamon. Full-bodied and lush, with the cassis and spice flavors complicated by a deep gamey richness. Very ripe and very long, with tannins buried in fruit. This is more accessible today than a bottle tasted 12 months ago. Long on character, and a lot of wine for the price. Try this as a ringer in a ripe-year Bordeaux tasting.
