Bright ruby. Black fruits, pepper, lead pencil, caraway seed and smoky oak on the nose. Elegant and fresh, with claret-like texture and weight and nicely restrained sweetness. Finishes with suave tannins and subtle, slow-building persistence. At a relatively modest 13.2% alcohol, this can't match the '98 for sheer ripeness and density, but it stylish juice.
